High Fructose Corn Syrup

You can find high fructose in just about every food that is processed. And what is that doing to our society? It easily could have caused many food allergic reactions....if you keep eating the same thing, every day, several times a day, there is a good chance you will develop a food allergy to it, and with it a variety symptoms, like aches and pains and plain old malaise (tired). Ask any medical doctor, chiropractor, acupuncturist, or pharmacist practicing holistic medicine, and ordering food allergy testing for their patients, and they will tell you this is likely true. I didn't make this stuff up. But what about other problems? There is a direct link between the use of high fructose corn syrup and obesity, as this above picture portrays. Think about the rise in obesity in our young children that has gone right along with the additional consumption of high fructose corn syrup in everything from cereals and desserts to prepackaged dinners. Why do companies do this? Why do food companies use high fructose corn syrup for sweetening rather than regular sugar? Answer: (it is the same answer to any great mystery, follow the money) It is cheaper for them.

For this day alone, check your labels on all you are eating just to see how much high fructose corn syrup is in each. Ingredients are listed from most to least in order. Coca Cola has high fructose corn syrup. You can buy a bottled soda, including Coca Cola, sweetened with Cane sugar, at Central Market (and some HEB's). I haven't looked at Whole Foods, but they might carry it too. Try it, if you are in any one of these stores. Compare the two. Do a little taste test for fun with your kids. Why not? It's the summer. You need something cool to drink, albeit not the one that is the best, water LOL, but hey, it's still fun. And it will get the kids into the game of reading labels.
Now what about high fructose corn syrup is so bad for you? Next blog!
