Interrupting

Inspiration of the Day: There is no failure, till you fail to try again. Get back up and try again.

On one hand this has absolutely nothing to do with health, specifically, it has nothing to do with supplements to take, or doctors to use. On the other hand, this has everything to do with health, because in a family, where no one listens to one another, where everyone over talks the other, there is no peace. And where there is no peace, there are drained adrenal glands from every persons' body adapting through the fight or flight response. Don't believe me? Go on vacation with all of them...in one car for hours....or in one hotel room together for many, many hours.

And since it is summer and vacation time, I want to share with you a really easy, great game that keeps EVERYONE from interrupting each other for as long as you choose to play the game....which can be days. A more positive way to put this is the game encourages people to listen better...hehehe... And it works from about age five on...

Here is the game:

  • Everyone gets one roll of quarters with their name written on it in waterproof writing. That's ten dollars each. No that's not too much. Everyone needs spending money, and this is simply spending money day or week, whatever you decide. And everyone can still relate to quarters, because so many vending machines still take them ;-)

  • How the game works: Anyone who interrupts another, has to give up a quarter to the person they have interrupted. It is that simple. Every time someone interrupts another, they have to give up a quarter to that person.

  • It usually takes about $ 1.25 to $2.50 for folks to 'get it'. And the older the person, the longer it takes ;-) There are probably lots of reasons for this...kids rarely get a chance to 'earn' any money in any form, so quarters, which seem so insignificant to adults, gives young ones a feeling of being 'grown up' and gives them a sense of 'freedom'. As well, kids are used to listening to adults, and adults are used to 'bossing', or talking over kids to get things done.

  • The result? Peace and Calm, Respect, a sense of equality. If you are consistent with this, it works every time! Good Luck and enjoy!

Joke of the Day:

What do you call a song sung in an automobile? A cartoon. (I thought this would be good to share with kids if you are heading out on that car trip!)

Recipe: This is for in a hotel room with a microwave, it's raining outside, the kids are bored and there is nothing to do.

Rice Crsipy treats in Microwave.

Microwave the I/4 cup butter, margarine or salad oil (you can tell I have had to be adaptable) with a cup of marshmallows and half power for about a minute in a microwavable bowl. (Times vary according to the microwave so keep an eye on it the first few times.) If you have had to have a parentale run to the local convenience store to ge the supplies, just make sure you get a microwavable bowl that will hold it all, about three cups. Make sure you get the kids to watch the marshmallows balloon up in the microwave...that is fun in and of itself! Once the marshmallows are all puffy, remove from microwave, dump in one cup of rice crispie treats and any other goodies you might happen to have around like m and m's or peanuts. It is YUMMY!
